Jacob K. Javits Fellowship
Dear Student--
In preparation for the Department of Education's announcement of the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship competition (expected in August 2008), please find the application details below:
OVERVIEW: portable, federal award supporting students in selected fields of the arts, social sciences, or humanities for up to 4 years. Visit the website for a complete list of eligible fields.
ELIGIBILITY: 4th year undergraduates, 1st year MFA or 1st year doctoral students in eligible fields; must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents; must be deemed eligible for financial aid based on results from the FAFSA form
LENGTH: 4 year fellowship over a 5 year period (can reserve for up to 12 months, but cannot defer 1st year)
AWARD: full tuition at any accredited U.S. institution to which applicant is accepted; up to $30,000 annually (determined by FAFSA financial need analysis)
APPLICATION: includes a personal statement, academic record, 3 letters of recommendation, and awards and honors; downloaded online. Applicants will only be able to access the 2009-10 Javits application by electronically downloading it from the program website. Hardcopies of applications will be unavailable for request by applicants. DEADLINE: The Jacob K. Javits 09-10 applications are expected to be available on the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program web site in August 2008. The application deadline date for the 09-10 fellowship competition is expected to be the early October 2008.
NOTIFICATION: approximately 100 awards (or 10% of applicants) will be notified in early March
